During
early years of the 21st century a small group of well known
chowists decided to form the North Florida Chow Chow Club. Although the
membership was small, they had a history of being active Chow fanciers.
Our
first year of activity consisted primarily of trying to get new members
and drum up enthusiasm for our club. We started with a
chairperson and a recording secretary to organize our
meetings. A decision was made to keep it this way until membership had
increased to the point where we could have elections.
Before
you knew it, we were able to start having fun matches. These seemed to
go over very well and created the kind of excitement our club was
looking for. People who had not been a part of the club, showed up for
the matches and from there joined the club.
By the
time our first year ended we had enough members to have elections. We
were able to fill the positions of president, vice president, secretary,
treasurer and three board members.
We
immediately forged a constitution and sent it to the AKC for approval
along with official recognition of the clubs name. Within a couple of
months our club name (North Florida Chow Chow Club) was accepted and we
were an official AKC club.
